Lead Keeper

Northumberland Zoo is an up-and-coming family run zoo in the heart of Northumberland. Constantly expanding year after year, we have over 100 species ranging from Snow Leopards to tiny Harvest Mice. We are full members of BIAZA with high standards in all aspects of the collection including husbandry and conservation.
Due to expansion and ambitious future plans, we have an exciting opportunity for a likeminded individual who can help lead and inspire our current animal care team. The successful candidate will also play an important role in driving these plans forward, under the direction of the Head keeper and Deputy Head keeper.

Our animal section has taken huge steps in early 2022, with the welcome addition of the Head and Deputy Head keepers. With a wealth of over 40 years combined experience in the zoological industry now helping to push the Northumberland Zoo keeper team forward.

The animal section is currently split into 6 different areas and the candidate will have the opportunity to work on all sections, setting the highest standards of husbandry and exhibit presentation. With several exciting developments already underway, the candidate will also be expected to bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to assist in the design of new, and the refurbishment of existing exhibits.

The candidate will be required to work in a team environment, ensuring that day-to-day husbandry is carried out in an effective and timely manner using the current standard operating procedures. The role will also include assisting the Head and Deputy Head keeper in the running of the animal department, and overseeing it in their absence.

Potential candidates will be required to complete a trial day at Northumberland Zoo.
