Colchester Zoo is
seeking an experienced and knowledgeable person to join its dynamic workforce
in the role of Head of Section. The successful applicant will have a minimum of
5 years firsthand experience of working with Great Apes. Knowledge of aquarium
LSS will be considered an advantage. Further to this the applicant must have a
minimum of 5 years working in a supervisory capacity and with proven leadership
skills clearly demonstrated.
To be considered for
this position you must have good interpersonal skills and be competent at
managing a team of four keeping staff. You will be expected to develop this
group and lead them by example. Giving support and assistance to each as
needed, to ensure that a strong team ethic is achieved leading to optimal
working conditions and extremely high standards of animal welfare. This is a
hands on position for which you will need to be hard working, physically fit
and show great enthusiasm for the role.
The section for
which you will be responsible has a diverse range of species; therefore
applicants are expected to show a high level of individual ability and
knowledge to manage this range of species and exhibits.
The section
comprises of the following: Orangutans; Chimpanzees, Spider monkeys, capuchin
monkeys, squirrel monkeys, turtles, toads and two aquarium exhibits.
You will report
directly to the zoological curator. It is expected that you will have been
awarded an animal science degree, the DMZAA or equivalent and hold a full UK
drivers licence. However, due consideration will be given to the individuals
own level of zoological experience.
