Keeper: Large Mammals
(Temporary Contract
for 4 to 6 months)
Twycross Zoo – East
Midland Zoological Society (TZEMS), World Primate Centre, has a comprehensive
collection of primate species, together with other mammals, birds and
reptiles. The Zoo has exciting plans to
further its work in the conservation of endangered species. We have impressive
breeding records for many of these species and recent changes to husbandry
practices have enabled more natural groupings and enclosure modifications. We
have more to do!
We have a vacancy
for a trainee animal keeper on the Large Mammals section, with a core working
focus on elephants. The Large Mammals
section is comprised of a variety of hoofstock, carnivores and our herd of 5
Asian elephants.
We are seeking an
enthusiastic, motivated individual with an interest in zoo animal management
and education. You must be committed to
continual professional development and be a good team worker. Zoo keeping experience and a relevant
animal-related qualification would be an advantage. This position is a key role which will
involve providing basic animal husbandry and regular interaction with the
public.
The role is a full
time temporary role, including weekend duties on a rota system. Salary is paid
monthly and we provide uniform and 31 days holiday per annum (pro-rated).
