VulPro is looking for a head of research. Someone reliable, looking for a long term job placement. The applicant would need to be willing to move to Hartbeesport.
The work is both research and field based which gives quite a bit of flexibility in your own personal growth. It is hard work, I am not going to lie and the work is not for everyone but it is super rewarding if you have the passion and the drive to save a species. Typical job entails:
Work Duties
Field work which includes:
- Colony monitoring
- Tree nesting vulture surveys
- Power line surveys
- Vulture restaurant visits and assist managers and landowners with correct management thereof
- Write up of field work reports and write up of field work proposals
- Attend conferences and give presentations
- Talks to farmers, landowners, communities and the general public during farmer days, public talks and as and when requested by the CEO
Research
- Monitoring of all tracked vultures
- Manage and upkeep of databases (Tracking and re-sighting database)
- Writing up of peer reviewed publications
- Advise and offer guidance to nature conservation students
- Research reports and research proposals
- Attend conferences and give presentations
Admin
- Report directly to the CEO
- Monthly reports
- Inserts for the newsletters
- Any errands or duties as requested by the CEO
Rehabilitation and captive breeding
- Assist with vulture collections throughout SA as and when needed and necessary
- Assist with captive breeding when and where necessary as requested by the CEO
- Assist with report and proposal writing for the captive breeding programme as this has a research element to it.
