Zoo Keepers

Zoo Keepers

Set in 25 hectares of tranquil surroundings, Hamilton Zoo is home to more than 600 native and exotic animals. As one of the leading visitor attractions in Hamilton, we’re looking for enthusiastic and committed team members to join us.
If you love animals, this is a great opportunity for you to work across all zoo operations and primarily be responsible for the care and display of our animal exhibits, and our animal conservation strategies.
The successful candidates will be motivated team players, with exceptional communication and collaboration skills that will enable you to work seamlessly with your team members. You’ll also have an understanding of modern zoo philosophies and be very safety conscious.
These roles offer a variety of mentally and physically demanding challenges, so being energetic and fit is important. We are looking for candidates who have a working knowledge of the zoo industry, hold a BScTech, Certificate in Animal Management (captive wild animals) or similar qualification. Experience in animal husbandry, specifically with birds, reptiles and primates is essential.
We have two fixed term full times roles covering parental leave - one position in the Birds and Ectotherms team and the other in the Primates and Small Carnivores team, and a permanent part time role (48 hours per fortnight) also in our Birds and Ectotherms team.
The recruiting salary commences from $45,728 per annum pro rata (which is equivalent to $21.98 per hour) and can be negotiated for the right candidate.
Hamilton Zoo, owned and operated by the Hamilton City Council, is committed to being a high-performance organisation with people who think differently, act with integrity, make it happen and work together.
This is your chance to be part of an organisation that is committed to building a more vibrant, attractive and prosperous city. If this role sounds like it’s for you, we would love to hear from you. Make it happen and apply online today!
All candidates will be notified of the outcome on their application via email. Short-listed candidates may be required to complete an interview process, reference checks, pre-employment medical and drug assessments, and Ministry of Justice or Police vetting check.
