The National Aquarium, Abu Dhabi

The National Aquarium is looking to appoint a new animal keeper position to the expanding flooded forest and terrestrial area of the aquarium.
The flooded forest is a diverse area with freshwater tanks, free roaming birds and lizards, small terrariums, primates and large rodents. We are looking for individuals who are dynamic, quick to learn and with diverse experience or interests.

Responsibilities:
• For all life support operations in the facility, including the husbandry, nutrition, training, maintenance, and wellbeing of plants & animals inclusive of fish, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds.
• For the up-keep and maintenance of all exhibits, ensuring accuracy in record keeping, disease prevention and assisting in the development and maintenance of world-class exhibits.

Essential:
• Previous experience working in an animal care facility
• Good knowledge of aquatic and terrestrial animal husbandry procedures.
• Duty of care and eye for detail.
• Ability to work well in a team as well as on their own
• Good record keeping skills
• SCUBA certified to at least Open Water level or equivalent

Desirable:
• Animal training experience
• Experience interacting with guests and animals in order to promote education and
conservation
• Relevant qualification in biology or related field.
This is a permanent full-time role, working on a variable rota system including some weekend days and public holidays. A high level of energy and physical fitness will enable you to meet the daily challenges of the role. We are a fun and enthusiastic team, who thrive in this challenging and rewarding area. While this is a position in the terrestrial team to start with, we are a large aquarium of which 70% of the exhibits are marine therefore there will be ample opportunities to diversify and expand knowledge and experience at the facility.
