CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER - The Hawk Conservancy Trust

 

The Hawk Conservancy Trust is a conservation charity and award-winning visitor centre of international renown that works in the fields of conservation, education, rehabilitation and research of birds of prey. It employs over thirty specialist staff and has an annual turnover in excess of £1.3 million. It has a strong membership and customer base.

The Chief Executive Officer has overall responsibility to the Board of the Trust for the successful management and development of the Trust’s business in accordance with its 5 year Business Strategy; for providing leadership to the whole organization, comprising management, staff, volunteers and membership; and for representing the Trust publicly.

Specific responsibilities include managing the Trust’s annual Business Planning Cycle; overseeing the implementation of a creative Marketing Plan; establishing operational and administrative systems, consistent with the Trust’s professional image; and sustaining the highest standards of teamwork across the Trust as a whole.

The CEO will manage and develop a wide range of direct reports whose responsibilities include:

• Conservation management, rehabilitation, education and managing the Park as a visitor attraction
• Conservation research
• Marketing, fundraising and commercial sponsorship
• Financial planning and management accounting
• Catering facilities and services
• Customer reception and retail sales
• Events co-ordination
• Administrative services and facilities

The successful candidate must have a proven track record of successful business management and development in a rapidly -growing and changing commercial environment; and skills in marketing planning, financial management, and team management and development.

The personal qualities required will include a high standard of personal and professional integrity and a high level of personal resilience.

Commercial Operations Manager - The Tropical Butterfly House

The Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre is one of Yorkshire’s best –loved wildlife destinations. Based on a 4½ acre site on the outskirts of Sheffield, the centre houses a recognisable collection and recently joined BIAZA as a provisional member.

We wish to appoint a Commercial Operations Manager to lead the business through the next phase of development. This is a new and challenging role, resulting from the continuous growth of the attraction and created to integrate animal husbandry, retail, events and catering activities.
Working closely with the owner and senior staff, the position calls for an experienced manager to develop this exciting and progressive visitor attraction. Solid experience in people management will be required, including a sound understanding of H&S and employment law. Experience in visitor management, retail, catering and marketing is important, together with personal qualities of leadership, business acumen, initiative and determination.


The ideal candidate will have:

Several years experience in a similar role
Experience in business development including catering, retail and events
Excellent organisational skills
Proven leadership and man-management skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong IT skills

An understanding of the role of BIAZA, zoo licensing and animal husbandry is desirable.

The role will be hands-on and a willingness to actively cover different areas is essential. The position will include weekend and bank holiday working. A negotiable salary in the region of £25-£30k will be available for the right candidate.

Marketing and Communication Officer
The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the only global representation of zoos and aquariums, is looking for support of the team in the Executive Office, which is based in Bern, Switzerland.

Required Skills:
You have training and education in marketing and communication, you have already gathered experience in that field and like to work on strategies as well as on concrete issues and projects. You like to network and be part of a small coordinating team. You know how to work with press agencies and have some experience with the corporate sector. Experiences in the field of conservation or zoos may be advantageous. Language skills must include English and German.

Aim of position:
Strategic development of a WAZA Marketing strategy including communication, and the implementation of the WAZA corporate identity . Identification of the right tools for marketing, working with sponsors and establishing a strategic approach for appropriate communication. Working relationships include the network of zoos /aquariums and the relevant WAZA entities.
