Up to £18,656 (dependent upon qualifications and experience)

 

With a growing animal collection and a £2m rebuild of our Animal Management Centre underway, the position will help ensure the husbandry, management and maintenance of the teaching collections of domestic rodents (hamsters, rats, mice, gerbils), companion mammals (rabbits, guinea-pigs, ferrets, chinchillas) and the exotic rodents (degus, harvest mice, dormice, jirds, sand rats etc.) are of the highest standard, and enhance delivery of practical training to groups of students.

 

Working with instructors, the post holder will provide practical support and supervision to students in practical subjects both on an individual and group basis, ensuring provision is learner focused, to achieve exemplary standards in animal welfare, teaching and customer service. The college is a full BIAZA member with a significant animal collection with exciting plans for further development.

 

Candidates should be educated to at least level 2 in a relevant vocational subject and be able to demonstrate significant professional experience working with a range of either rodents or companion mammals; with at least some knowledge of both. A flexible approach to a varied workload and a real enthusiasm for the animals you will be working with are essential, and some teaching or supervisory experience would be advantageous.

 

This post is based at the Sparsholt campus. The role entails weekend and Bank Holiday working on a rota basis.

This is a fixed term contract for 12 months.

 

Salary: Up to £19,703 DOE

If on-site accommodation is not available or required, then a living out allowance is paid.

Living out allowance is £2,600 gross per annum (pro rata to working hours).

 

Howletts Wild Animal Park in Canterbury, Kent is recruiting for the position of Trainee Primate Keeper, to work 5 days per week 8am 5pm.

 

Howletts is a world class wildlife park run by the international conservation charity The Aspinall Foundation and works to support a number of overseas conservation projects including the Java Primate Project in Indonesia. We are home to a collection of rare and endangered primates, including Javan gibbons, Dusky langurs, Sulawesi macaques, Pied tamarins and Gelada baboons to name a few.

 

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated individual with an interest in animal management. You must have previous experience of working with animals, in a mainstream zoological collection, an awareness of current conservation issues and a passion for animal welfare. This position is a key role which will involve providing basic animal husbandry and regular interaction with the public. The applicant must be enthusiastic in contributing to the enrichment of the primate species around the park and must be confident in speaking to groups of people. A practical and proactive approach coupled with excellent organisation and communication skills are essential, as is a full valid driving licence. An animal management qualification would be advantageous.

 

A reliable mode of transport is recommended due to our remote location. All applicants must have right to work in the UK.

Award winning Blackpool Zoo is looking to fill a key position within its Animal Department.

 

Blackpool Zoo is looking for an experienced Bird Keeper to assist in the daily care and husbandry needs of a large range of exotic birds, reptiles, small mammals and invertebrates that it currently maintains, many of which are managed as part of captive breeding programmes.

 

You will be joining the team at an exciting time in Blackpool zoos history. The section has in recent years undergone large scale redevelopment with the opening of World of wings, Rainbow landings and our Asian songbird aviaries in 2019. The section is currently home to over 70 bird species ranging from American flamingo, Eastern white pelican, Magellanic penguin, Black-casqued wattled hornbill, Blue crowned laughing thrush, Bali myna and Kea to name only a few. A number of small mammals, reptiles and invertebrates including Red Panda, Dwarf Mongoose, Asian Short-clawed Otter, Rhinoceros iguana and Yacare Caiman are also maintained on this section. We have further plans to continue developing the department and you will be an integral part of this.

 

You will need to be hard working, physically fit, enthusiastic and reliable. You should possess the Diploma in The Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals (DMZAA) or an equivalent and have a minimum of three years bird keeping experience. Experience with incubation and bird hand-rearing techniques is not essential but would be desirable.

 

We currently offer a Salary of £20,411.00 per annum as well as a range of other benefits plus the opportunity to further your career within the zoological industry.

Award winning Blackpool Zoo is looking to fill a key position within its Animal Department.

 

With its new multimillion-pound elephant facility ‘Project Elephant Basecamp’ opened in 2018 award winning Blackpool Zoo is looking to fill a Keeper position within its Elephant Section.

 

The successful candidate will be working in a protected contact keeping system and will be assisting in all aspects of the sections work, including the delivery of the zoos current Elephant care program to our existing 1 male and 5 female Asian Elephants. The successful applicant will be required to work as part of a close-knit team and will be able to demonstrate good communication skills both written and oral.

 

You will need to be hard working, physically fit, enthusiastic and reliable. You should possess the Diploma in The Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals (DMZAA) or an equivalent and have a minimum of three years in a recognised zoological institution and have previous notable experience of working with elephants (preferably in a protective contact environment). A full manual driving licence is essential and previous experience of driving Tractors/Multipurpose vehicles would be advantageous.

Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park was opened to the public in 1970 and was, at the time, one of Britain’s first safari parks. We are now one of the most popular visitor attractions in Scotland. The Park has a strong focus on conservation, education and the local community. We also run a successful fundraising program for conservation “link to the wild”.

We are currently looking for an experienced and confident animal keeper to join our team working predominately with our lemurs and other small mammals and invertebrates.   This position is offered on a full time, permanent basis.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity working as part of a small team with primary responsibility for the management and welfare of our lemurs and other small mammals and invertebrates.

The position involves husbandry tasks, such as feeding, cleaning, health monitoring and some enclosure maintenance all delivered to a high standard.

Applicant Requirements

This person must be a pro-active individual that will take a hands on approach within the department with an eye for detail and presentation.

The candidate must have an interest and some knowledge of lemurs and previous work experience would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will be able to work well as part of a team, have the ability to use their initiative, display an interest in and commitment to animal welfare, environmental enrichment and conservation,

Weekend, bank holiday working and flexibility in working hours is essential to this role. Some evening work will be required during special events throughout the year.

Ensuring the safety of our visitors, staff and animals is of key importance and ensuring that health & safety protocols are followed at all times.
