In the role as Animal Keeper on our Hoofstock section you will be part of a team that ensures the highest possible welfare standards for our large collection of species, including but not limited to; Giraffe, White Rhino, European Bison, European Elk, Eland antelope, Wildebeest and Gemsbok. We aim for optimal welfare for all our animals at all times and as such you will not only be responsible for ensuring exceptional enclosure cleanliness and appropriate nutrition for the animals, but you will also be expected to carry out daily animal observations, evaluate behaviour and assess welfare, keep thorough records and plan and execute daily, goal-oriented husbandry training for a wide range of species.
You will be required to research, develop, deliver and evaluate environmental enrichment that meet species-specific needs. Additional duties include coaching of students and apprentices and supporting our education, sustainability, veterinary and research departments.
Lastly, Kolmården’s mission is to inspire adults and children to a lifelong commitment to animals and nature. Therefore, all our animal staff engage with our visitors on a daily basis, inspiring and educating them through guided tours, presentations, media and school programs.

The right candidate for this position has a minimum of 5 years’ experience working as an animal caretaker in a Zoological setting, preferably with species such as Rhino, Giraffe, Zebra and various antelopes. Experience working with animals in mixed exhibits is preferred. A sense of responsibility and awareness of safe practices when working with and around large mammals is a requirement.

The expected knowledge and skills of an experienced animal keeper is valued at Kolmården, but equally important are interpersonal skills. As we are always looking to improve in all areas, a person who is passionate about positive developments, particularly in animal welfare would be suitable in this role. Creativity and the ability to think outside the box is important, as is exceptional communication skills alongside a knack for adapting them.
Animal Keepers at Kolmården work under high pressure year-round and the job is physically very demanding. As such, you need to be resilient, effective and physically fit.

Naturally, we want all our keepers to be comfortable in front of large audiences. Showmanship and customer service comes easy to them and they are passionate about teaching our visitors about our animals and inspiring them to care for our planet and its wildlife.

Driver’s license and experience of driving a tractor is a requirement for this position. Knowledge of ZIMS is desirable. Fluency in spoken and written English is required. The successful applicant will be expected to master a basic level of the native language within his or her first year of employment. Applicants must have a right to work within the EU.

Dedicated Ape Keeper / Maternity cover

There is currently an opportunity for an experienced Ape keeper to join the team at Kolmården Wildlife park for a 15-month maternity cover. Depending on circumstances in the future along with performance, this contract can come to be extended.

In the role as Animal Keeper on our Ape section you will be part of a team that ensures the highest possible welfare standards for our Gorillas, Chimps and Gibbons.
We aim for optimal welfare for all our animals at all times and as such you will not only be responsible for ensuring exceptional enclosure cleanliness and appropriate nutrition for the animals, but you will also be expected to carry out daily animal observations, thorough record keeping and goal-oriented environmental enrichment. The apes partake in an extensive husbandry training program, therefore their team of keepers plan and execute daily positive reinforcement training in protected contact. Lastly, all our animal staff engage with our visitors on a daily basis, inspiring and educating them through guided tours, presentations, media and school programs.

The right candidate for this position has previous experience working with apes in a Zoological setting. A sense of responsibility and awareness of safe practices when working with and around large apes is a requirement. A sound knowledge of learning science theory and how to apply it is advantageous.

In the role as marine mammal trainer you will ensure the highest possible welfare standards for our collection of bottlenose dolphins and seals. We aim for optimal welfare for all our animals at all times and as such you will not only be responsible for ensuring exceptional facility cleanliness and appropriate nutrition for the animals, but you will also be expected to carry out animal observations, thorough record keeping and daily husbandry training. You will be required to research, develop, deliver and evaluate environmental enrichment that meet species-specific needs. Additional duties include coaching of students and apprentices, supporting our education, sustainability and research departments and of course planning and executing goal-orientated animal training using advanced concepts in positive reinforcement training for the purpose of shows, guest interactions and educational presentations.

The right person for this position has at least 3 years’ experience in working with and training marine mammals. You must have previous experience of performing in and working with animals in dynamic shows, working animals in groups and waterwork.

In addition to the above, we are looking for a person who knows how to have fun in work. You need to possess a positive and optimistic attitude. The right candidate for this position is a skilled problem solver who is flexible with a can-do approach in work. You should of course be able to act professionally and have exceptional communication skills which you have a knack for adapting. Marine mammal trainers at Kolmården work under high pressure year-round and the job is physically very demanding. As such you need to be resilient, effective, flexible, physically fit and the successful candidate will be required to pass a swim test. Lastly we want you to be comfortable in front of large audiences. Showmanship and customer service comes easy to you and you are passionate about teaching our visitors about our animals and inspiring them for a life-long commitment to our planet and its wildlife.

Responsibilities & duties
In the role as animal keeper/trainer on our bird team you will be an integral part of the future development of Kolmården Wildlife Park. A big part of your role is to ensure the highest possible welfare standards for our collection of birds.
Additionally you will cross-train and work with our South American collection of mostly mammals.
Duties in this role include daily husbandry of a range of species such as falcons, hornbills and hawks as well as tapirs, Vicunas and Greater Rhea. We aim for optimal welfare for all our animals at all times and as such you will not only be responsible for ensuring exceptional hygiene and appropriate nutrition, but you will also be expected to carry out animal observations, thorough record keeping and daily husbandry training for each individual animal under your care. You will be required to research, develop, deliver and evaluate environmental enrichment that meet species-specific needs. Additional duties include coaching of students and apprentices, supporting our educational, sustainability and research departments and of course planning and executing goal-orientated training of birds using ethical methods for the purpose of shows, guest interactions and education.

Key skills & requirements
The right person for this position has at least 3 years’ experience of working with exotic animals. You must possess a thorough understanding of the science of learning that goes beyond ‘click-and-feed’ and have experience in training birds and mammals using a holistic approach that is based on positive reinforcement.
In addition to the above, we seek a person who has a positive and optimistic attitude. A problem solver who is flexible with a can-do attitude. The right candidate for this post is able to act professionally and has exceptional communication skills which they have a knack for adapting. He or she needs to be good at planning and organizing their day so that they can work effectively. Sound like you? Then lastly we want you to be physically fit and comfortable in front of large audiences.
Showmanship comes easy to you and you must be passionate about teaching our visitors about our animals and inspiring them for a life-long commitment to our planet and its wildlife. Driver’s license is advantageous and fluent in spoken and written English a requirement. You will be required to learn a basic level of Swedish in your first year of employment.

Looking for World-Class ZooKeepers

Dolphin Show, Safari, world-class hotels and exciting roller coasters are all parts of our everyday lives, as well as 96% guest satisfaction and magical working surroundings in the beautiful area of Kolmården forests.

 Every guest who visits us is a unique person with high expectations. Therefore we are looking for world-class zookeepers, with holistic approach and a keen eye for the animals. You will take part in the further/continuous development of Kolmården zoo including the husbandry for our animals. In your role as service devoted zookeeper you will strive to exceed our guests' expectations and with your special expertise and stage presence create a world class show for our guests, every time! Through individual and personal guest meetings, you are expected to inspire children and adults to a lifelong dedication to animals and nature.

We are looking for someone with a passion for working with animals, and that is service oriented. You have a great interest in animals and nature and want to share your knowledge and contribute to a greater understanding of animals to our guests. Through your devotion and genuine concern for animals and service you contribute to the guests' overall experience and create memories that makes them yearn back for us.

 As zookeeper you work partly independently and therefore it is important that you feel comfortable in that role, and dares to take initiatives. Many times the work pace is high and it is important that you have the ability to be flexible in your duties. In addition to guiding and sharing knowledge about the animals to our guests, you are working with customary duties in the husbandry care of animals including food preparation, enrichment, cleaning and assist in veterinary care.

 We expect you to have at least 3 years of experience working with animals, preferably in a zoo in or outside of Sweden. You have a postsecondary education in animal training, veterinary care, biology, agronomy, hippology or equivalent. Many times the work pace high and it is important that you have the ability to be flexible in both your duties and working hours. As a person you should be stable and be able to remain calm in stressful situations. Since the work is physically demanding you need to be in a good physical condition. Due to guided tours and other guest related meetings it is desirable that you have stage preforming experience and are comfortable and enjoy talking in a microphone in front of an audience.

 If you have practical machine and/or agrimotor experience it is an extra credit. Driving license for personal car is required.

We are looking for zookeepers to several departments. The employments are on a 6 months trial basis.
