Bird of prey presenter/demonstration falconer

The Lake District Wildlife Park is looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, dedicated team player to join our keeper team. We are looking for someone who is passionate about wildlife and the environment and wants to share this enthusiasm with others.

You will be directly responsible for the day to day and long term care of the bird section taking lead on the daily presentations and afternoon hawk walks, full support and day off cover provided by the park manager.

The bird team is in place however there is the opportunity for expansion and to put your own stamp on the presentations.

We are looking for someone with:

·         Min 3 years of working within this sector

·         An ability to demonstrate sound husbandry practices to deliver a high level of care

·         The ability to work alone and as part of a team

·         The ability to work under pressure

·         Excellent customer service skills

·         High level of presentation and communication skills

·         Good organisational skills and the ability to multi-task

·         Maintenance and enclosure refurbishment skills

·         Initiative to continually strive towards improving the section and park as a whole

·         DMZAA or equivalent qualification

·         Full UK driving licence

   Full time 40hrs per week

28 paid days holiday per year

Salary £20,800 + dependent upon experience

The Lake District Wildlife Park is looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, dedicated team player to join our keeper team. The Park houses a large range of exotic animals and domestic stock. We are proud to manage our wider estate with HLS Stewardship programmes and manage our land with conservation in mind. We are looking for someone who is passionate about wildlife conservation and wants to share this enthusiasm with people. The role includes the day to day husbandry and care of a variety of animal species, presenting talks, providing animal encounters and regular interaction with our visitors.

We are looking for someone with:

·         3 years min experience of working in an animal related environment.

·         A broad range of experience of animal husbandry including birds, reptiles, primates and ungulates.

·         The ability to work alone and as part of a team

·         The ability to work under pressure

·         Excellent customer service skills

·         Good organisational skills and the ability to multi-task

·         Maintenance and enclosure refurbishment skills

·         Initiative to continually strive towards improving the Park

We would prefer someone who holds the DMZAA or equivalent,

We are currently seeking a zoo professional for the position of Cover Keeper working with a wide range of species including Primates, reptiles, carnivore and ungulates.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and passionate about wildlife, with the skills required to communicate this passion and knowledge directly to our visitors through presentations and keeper experiences.

They should be able to demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of modern zoo practices in animal husbandry, diets and environmental enrichment, as well as an understanding and knowledge of conservation and health and safety practices.

The successful candidate should have experience of working with animals in a keeper role in a zoo/ wildlife park and hold a DMZAA or similar qualification.

This is a fulltime position working a 40hr week including weekend and bank holidays.

You will not only have charge of the primate section but with your previous animal husbandry experience you will be able to cover on all sections.

We are looking for an enthusiastic team player who is happy to follow direction when given and is able to think and work alone.

You should have three years relevant primate experience and your references will show you to be a careful, organised, clean and reliable employee. The ideal candidate will hold the DMZAA or equivalent qualification and a full clean uk drivers licence.

The right candidate may be awarded a relocation allowance and temporary on site accommodation.  The area boasts excellent primary and secondary schools and is a Mecca for the outdoor enthusiast.

The Lake District Wildlife Park is situated within the Lake District national park 8 miles north of Keswick.

We are an open spacious animal collection on the 400acre Armathwaite Hall estate housing over 100 species of exotic and rare breed domestic animals, As a BIAZA member we work with many EEP species and support several conservation organisations both local and international.

Our aim is to deliver a fun informative animal based visitor experience in the heart of the Lake District allowing guests to further their understanding of the natural world around us

Keeper responsibilities:

• Daily care and animal husbandry duties
• Delivery of an environmental enrichment programme
• Delivering engaging, educational and fun keeper led presentations
• Grounds and enclosure maintenance

Candidate requirements:

• 2 yrs practical zoo/animal work
• An ability to communicate well with guests and staff
• A sound knowledge and practical ability to perform general maintenance tasks
• A sound knowledge and practical ability to carry out animal husbandry duties
• DMZAA qualification or similar qualification (experience will be considered without qualifications)
• Primate experience desirable
• Reptile experience desirable

Terms:

Fulltime 40hrs per week including weekends and bank hols

Salary dependant on experience
