An exciting
opportunity has arisen for an experienced Animal Collections Manager at our
campuses across London.
The
successful candidate will be leading, managing and developing the Zoos, farms
and animals at our campuses within the parameters set by the Director of
Studies and Curriculum Leaders in Animal Management & Saddlery. They will
work collaboratively and innovatively with staff to foster and lead a culture
of self-assessment and continuous improvement, promoting high standards of
animal welfare, conservation and education within the area.
The
Collections Manager works closely with Team Leaders, Practical Instructors, and
Encounters Officers, ensuring outstanding experiences for visitors and learning
for our students, as well as animal welfare at the campuses. They lead on
licensing inspections and coordinate closely with the Zoo Vet and external
licensing bodies. Additionally, they lead on co-ordinating events and public
activities, including outreach and work experience.
The
successful candidate is expected to possess at least a HND, degree or similar
in a science or animal related discipline. Experience of leading in the Animal
Management industry is essential.

We are
currently seeking a Team Leader Ectotherms As a key member of the Zoo's
Animal Care & Conservation team, the Team Leader's role is to ensure that
the staff, facilities and animals associated with the section are managed to
achieve excellence. Working under the Curator of Ectotherms, the primary focus
of the advertised role is to oversee the care of the Zoo's reptiles,
amphibians, fish and invertebrates, providing best practice husbandry,
contributing to our knowledge of these species through research and
publication, and delivering world-class animal habitats and meaningful
encounters to our 700,000 annual visitors. You will also help to identify,
develop and deliver a portfolio of related conservation programs in the field.
This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in the development of the Zoo's
ectotherm section, to actively contribute to conservation both in the zoo and
in the field, and to work with some of the world's most extraordinary
ectotherms including tuatara, wetapunga and Archey's frog. The section
maintains a growing number of ‘exotic’ species, soon to be complimented by an
authentically-themed South East Asian ‘Swamp Forest’ dome, which will be home
to Sunda gharial, freshwater turtles, tortoises and thousands of fish. The exciting
challenges of bringing this complex project to life is just ahead.

new volunteer in the Central Feed Kitchen?

At least
1x a week from 08.30 am to 17.00 pm
Your role
You work under the supervision of the Central Kitchen coordinator and prepare
the feed for the animals on the basis of digital diet lists.
In addition,
you bring the feed to the various animal care departments and you help with the
cleaning work in the feed kitchen and the washing of the work clothes of the
animal caretakers. You help with the delivery of vegetables, fruit and
chunks and maintenance of the warehouse.
Your
baggage
* You like to roll up your sleeves and you have an affinity with the objectives
of the AAP Foundation * You are accurate and can work both independently and in
(changing) teams * You work orderly and hygienically * You have a basic
knowledge of English in language and writing * you are in good physical
health; the work is mainly standing.

currently has a vacancy for a bird keeper role.
The successful applicant will help the aviculture team in the daily husbandry
needs of our large bird collection.
We are looking for a keen individual wishing to provide first class support
within our avicultural team.
The ideal candidate will be fit, have a keen interest in birds, and be prepared
to work in all weather conditions andhave at least 2 years working in a zoo
with birds.
Full training
will be given, though previous experience with avian husbandry is considered
essential.
