DISPLAYS CURATOR - Brighton SEA LIFE Centre

DISPLAYS CURATOR - Brighton SEA LIFE Centre

£18K plus benefits

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Displays Curator to join the team at the World’s Oldest Operating Aquarium in Brighton, Sussex.

Antique Submarine outside Britains Oldest Aquarium

The Brighton SEA LIFE Centre is the oldest seaside aquarium in Britain. Its high-tech displays amidst historic architecture teem with thousands of astonishing sea creatures. The ocean tank is one Britain's largest and is home to tropical sharks and two large and very friendly sea turtles. New for 2009 was the launch of Serpents of The Sea, a fantastic feature showcasing eels, snakes and all things serpent-like from beneath the waves. Many are brightly coloured, others verge on the bizarre…and one or two are deadly!

You’ll find this amazing and unique aquarium in the heart of the south-east’s seaside town of Brighton, a vibrant city full of life as well as a few bargains. In contrast find yourself on the beach watching the waves crashing against the shore.

The Role

In this role you will take responsibility for ensuring the continual development and innovation within the displays areas. Naturally you’ll be responsible for all maintenance plans of the life support systems and the cleanliness of our displays as well as the development of suitable diets and feeds for our creatures, ensuring we present world class displays. In addition you’ll drive conservation and education within the aquarium ensuring we meet and exceed our zoo licensing requirements.

The Person

You’ll be a dynamic, confident and a self motivated individual; who will be an integral part of the team aiming for a centre of excellence in marine management, conservation, preservation and education.

Using your experience, gained by working in a similar environment, you will have a robust knowledge of aquatic animal husbandry; and have the ability to communicate to all employees and clients as well as deliver a highly immersive experience to all our visitors. You’ll also have a comprehensive understanding of zoo licensing, previous project management experience and ideally be educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant science discipline.

Joining us also means you’ll be apart of the Merlin Entertainments Group, the worlds second largest entertainment operator. That means there'll always be further opportunities to grow, develop and try new things – plus full and continuous support along the way. As you’d expect we offer an excellent package of benefits including:

• Free tickets for all Merlin attractions

• Discounts and special offers

• Pension scheme
