Trainee Primate Keeper
(This is a
fixed term contract for 12 months.) Salary: Under 21 - £16,640, Over 21 - £18,533.
If on-site accommodation is not available or required, then a living
out allowance is paid.
Living
out allowance is £2,600 gross per
annum (pro rata to working hours).
Howletts Wild Animal Park in Canterbury, Kent is
recruiting for the position of Trainee Primate Keeper 5 days per
week, 8am – 5pm.
Howletts is a world class
wildlife park run by the international conservation charity The Aspinall Foundation and works to support a
number of overseas conservation projects including
the Java Primate Project in Indonesia. We are home to a collection of rare and endangered primates, including Javan
gibbons, Dusky langurs, Sulawesi macaques, Pied tamarins and Gelada baboons to name a few.
We are seeking an
enthusiastic, motivated individual with an interest in zoo animal management. You must be committed to
continual professional development and be a good team worker. Zoo keeping experience and a relevant
animal-related qualification would be an
advantage. This position is a key role which will involve providing basic
animal husbandry and regular
interaction with the public. The applicant must also be enthusiastic in contributing to the enrichment of the
primate species around the park. A practical and proactive approach coupled with good organisation and
communication skills and an overall understanding
of the role of the modern animal collection
is essential, as is a full valid driving licence.
A reliable mode of
transport is recommended due to our remote location. All applicants must have right to work
