SPECIALIST KEEPER – ELEPHANT TEAM


Chester Zoo is one of the leading zoological collections in Europe with an international reputation for achieving its mission in conservation breeding programmes, research and education.

We are currently recruiting for a suitably experienced and qualified Specialist Keeper to be the Second-in-Charge of our Asian Elephant programme at the Zoo. Applicants should have proven experience of working with a mixed elephant herd in protected contact.

The successful candidate will have experience of supervising a team and be able to organise and prioritise tasks in a dynamic environment. In addition to the daily practical management of the herd, responsibilities will also include; staff training and development; animal record keeping; ensuring working procedures and risk assessments remain updated; participation in relevant cross-team meetings; and representing the elephant team at relevant internal and external meetings. The applicant should also have a full driving licence and be prepared to work weekends and bank holidays in a roster system.
