Zoo Keeper - The Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre

The Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre is looking for a full time experienced Zoo Keeper. The role will cover all areas including the tropical house, farm barn, small animal house, nature trail and various other exhibits. We are looking for a forward thinking candidate who can help the centre move forwards as a collection in line with modern zoo practices. An understanding of the role of the modern zoo is essential. The right candidate will have a fundamental role in advancing the centre as it moves towards having a greater involvement in the zoo community.

The Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre is based on a small site near Sheffield. Established in 1994 it is has developed gradually over the years from the early days as a butterfly house to the recognisable collection it is today. The centre recently joined BIAZA as provisional members. www.butterflyhouse.co.uk

The ideal candidate will have:

· At least two years experience working in a similar role
· Excellent animal husbandry skills
· Experience working with a wide range of species including exotics
· Excellent written and verbal communication; experience in public speaking
· Horticultural experience, preferably with tropical species

We are looking for a highly motivated and hard working individual who is versatile in nature and prepared to cover other roles at the centre as necessary. The ability to use initiative is essential. This position will include weekend and bank holiday working. No accommodation is available with this post. Pay dependant on experience
