Monkey World assists governments around the world to rescue primates that have been smuggled from the wild. At the centre refugees of this illegal trade as well as those that have suffered abuse or neglect are rehabilitated into social groups.

Job Description
Monkey World is looking for an experienced primate keeper to manage the largest collection of golden-cheeked gibbons outside Southeast Asia as well as Mueller’s, lar, agile and siamang gibbons. The section consists of two breeding family groups of golden-cheeked gibbons and numerous pairs and individuals all rescued from the illegal pet trade or re-homed from zoos.

Monkey World has a sister sanctuary in Southern Vietnam, Dao Tien. There will also be opportunities for in collaboration with this insitu conservation project as well as the possibility of travel and educational grants.

The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the section including animal husbandry, diets, operant conditioning, enrichment and health checks. You will also be responsible for staff training and monitoring.

Qualifications/Experience
This role requires a primate keeper with at least 3 years experience. A minimum of 1 years experience of working with gibbons is also essential.

Applicants will need to demonstrate good communication skills, be physically fit, self motivated and able to lead and work as part of a team.

Desirable
  • Full driving licence
  • Shotgun certificate
  • Experience of public speaking
  • Experience of operant conditioning
  • Familiarity with rescue and rehabilitation of primates

Salary
Dependant on experience.

Condition of appointment
This position will be subject to a six-month probationary period
