SECTION HEAD OF ELEPHANTS

The Aspinall Foundation is a registered charity that is actively involved with several projects that incorporate a diverse range of conservation activities both at their Kent based Howletts and Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks, in addition to well-established overseas projects in the Republic of Congo and Gabon and more recent developing projects in Indonesia and Madagascar. Our main spheres of conservation-based activity include captive breeding, education, ecosystem management, local community education projects, capacity building, habitat surveys and the rehabilitation of confiscated wild animals.

Howletts Wild Animal Park holds a group of 14 African elephants consisting of a diverse age range, from second generation calves through to adults. The Howletts herd is the largest, most successful breeding group of African elephants in the UK and has produced 21 calves over the last 40 years.

There are 5 people in the elephant team. Their focus is the continued breeding success of the Howletts herd; maintaining the highest standards of welfare possible and enriching the lives of the animals in their care.

The successful candidate will have previous elephant management experience and a minimum of 5 years experience within a main stream animal collection. A proven track record of personnel management is also required.

A proactive approach coupled with good organisation and communication skills and an overall understanding of the role of the modern animal collection is essential, as is a full valid driving licence.

Salary negotiable depending upon experience. This is a 40 hour working week, five days out of seven.
