The successful candidate will coordinate and support the laboratories and assist in the management of student recruitment and retention and field site relationships for the Biology & Management of Zoo Animals department at Portland Community College.
Job Summary
Under the technical direction of one or more members of the faculty or an instructional administrator, prepares laboratories and classrooms for instructors; plans and designs experiments/demonstrations; participates in the delivery of the actual instruction and provides student supervision, assistance and evaluation and/or has been assigned lead responsibilities over classified staff. This classification is distinguished from other levels in the Instructional Support Technician series by the requirement to work independently in resolving problems and making decisions; participate in the delivery of actual instruction and/or serve as lead worker over classified employees. Experience in animal care and supporting laboratory activities is required. Significant experience in zoo or wildlife animal management is preferred.

- High school diploma or equivalent plus at least 2 years of post-secondary education in zoo or veterinary technology, animal or biological sciences.
- Three years of experience in animal care with at least 1 year of experience supporting laboratory activities
- Proven communication skills adequate to assist students in understanding the work that they are to perform
Preferred Qualifications
- BS or BA in animal science related field
- 3 years of experience in zoo or wildlife animal management
- 1 year or more of teaching experience
- Experience managing a budget
- Experience in any of the following areas is a plus: animal anatomy, water quality management, veterinary assisting, horticulture, construction, and animal training and enrichment.
- Computer skills including knowledge of common applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience in managing, troubleshooting and repairing equipment
