Colchester Zoo are looking to recruit a full-time senior animal keeper to work on one of its busiest and most demanding sections comprising of three of the Zoo’s walkthrough enclosures and animal handling and feeding areas.

This post provides the opportunity to work with Rainbow Lorikeets, Aldabra, Burmese, Sulcata and Spur-thighed tortoises, Wallabies, Darwin’s Rhea, Corn snakes and Royal Pythons, Pygmy Hedgehogs and a range of domestic species in a high visitor concentrated section. The successful applicant will be part of a large team entrusted with the care of the above animals and will be required to carry out daily interactions and experiences with our guests, input ideas for the continual progression and development of animal husbandry and enclosure design as well as maintain high standards of enclosure presentation, animal care and breeding management.
We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated and hard working, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a zoological collection and a keen interest in Visitor engagement. Excellent customer service, communication and animal husbandry skills are essential and some experience of supervising staff would be preferable.

Applicants should have the Diploma in the Management of Zoo Animals and Aquaria or an equivalent qualification and have a full valid driving licence.

This is a permanent position with a start date as soon as is possible and salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
