Animal Section Team Leader

Animal Section Team Leader

Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Since its opening in 2009, Yorkshire Wildlife Park has evolved to become the UK’s number 1 on-foot safari. We feature walkthrough exhibits that take the guest directly into the world of the animals. A dynamic centre for conservation and welfare, the park currently has around 558 animals across 58 different species. With a 5-year masterplan in place, the park is set to expand creating more ground breaking animal reserves as part of a multi-million pound, unique and innovative development.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly-motivated individual to lead one of our four enthusiastic and energetic animal teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of a mixed section range of species including primates, small mammals and carnivores. The team is also responsible for the delivery of engaging talks and presentations throughout the day, including shows and behind the scenes experiences. This position will have a key role in designing, establishing and managing new animal facilities and ensuring the best possible husbandry, health and welfare standards for the existing section and the new species.  Team Leaders manage both the animal and ranger operations of the section, therefore experience of people management is essential for this role.

To be considered, candidates must hold a Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals (DMZAA) or a degree level qualification in an animal related subject area. In addition, they will demonstrate comprehensive experience of at least 6 years, working within zoological collections with at least some of this in a supervisory role.  A primate taxonomic focus would be particularly welcome but is not essential.

This is a full time, permanent position which will include weekend and bank holiday work.
