Kamo Wildlife Sanctuary is home to 20 big cats – lions, tigers, cheetah and a leopard. It is our mission to give them the brightest future possible by improving their facilities and offering world class care. The sanctuary is currently in the process of completing the last of the new build and renovation work.  These improvements, along with the time and effort to develop and continuously improve our procedures and protocols, will ultimately lead to re-opening the sanctuary to the public.

We are looking for a new, experienced Lead/Senior Keeper to take on this exciting and evolving role. This position requires a versatile and hands on individual, who can lead and develop our small team with positivity and support. Due to the current COVID 19 driven environment, this person would need to be located in New Zealand or be a New Zealand resident able to return.

The ideal person will have the following skills and attributes:-

•        At least 5 years’ experience in zoo animal husbandry environment
•        A qualification in captive animal management, or the like, would be seen as an advantage
•        Responsible, mature, team player
•        High level of physical fitness
•        Excellent communication skills
•        Full driver's licence
•        Hold, or ability to obtain, firearms licence preferred

Duties will include:-

•        Providing daily care and welfare to our collection of carnivores
•        Good practical skills ie maintaining animal enclosures and exhibits - fence repairs, electrics, etc
•        Animal observation, record keeping, dietary requirements, plan and implement behavioural enrichment programs with the team
•        Training and supervision of junior and new staff
•        Developing and presenting fun, informative sessions to public on and off site once open
