ASSISTANT ANIMAL KEEPER - MATERNITY COVER

This is an exciting opportunity to get involved in the development and expansion of the Animal Management Unit and School Zoo at Bede’s.

You will work under the direction of the Head of Animal Management, in order to perform the daily task required for the collections care. Our collection currently consists of 170+ individuals of 40 different species ranging from Binturongs and Squirrel Monkeys to Stick Insects and Giant Land Snails.  In the absence of the Zoo Manager (who is on maternity leave) you will report to the Head of Animal Management.

The AMU Keeper will embrace the department’s objectives of providing a first class educational experience for our students and to provide a centre of excellence in terms of the welfare for the animals in our care.

Candidates should be educated to at least Level 3 in a relevant vocational subject or a biological science (biology, animal management, animal care, zoo management etc.), and be experienced with a range of exotic and domestic mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates. Candidates should also possess the practical skills necessary for both husbandry and enclosure maintenance.
