Do you have experience with great apes, and want to work as a zookeeper in Kristiansand Dyrepark?


Our animal department is currently looking for a temporary zookeeper. The primate department is responsible for the care, welfare and display of chimpanzees, bornean orangutans, javan langurs, yellow cheeked gibbons, black spider monkeys, lion tamarins, pygmy marmosets, squirrel monkeys and ringtail lemurs.

We are looking for a candidate who has gained knowledge about, and has experience as a zookeeper for great apes and who enjoys communicating about animals to guests.

Responsibilities

- Daily responsibility for care and supervision of the animals

- Cleaning and maintenance of enclosures

- Prepare food for the animals in your assigned area

- Train animals using reward-based methods

- Perform animal presentations for the zoo’s visitors

- Contribute with knowledge sharing within the team

Personal Skills

- Driven by creating excellent guest experiences

- Passionate about primate husbandry and welfare

- Solid team player who is also able to work independently

- Creative and open-minded

- Good problem solving skills

- Structured yet flexible

Qualifications and Experience

- Minimum 3 years experience with orangutangs or chimpanzees

- Knowledge of Scandinavian language is preferred, but English-speaking candidates will also be considered.

Zookeepers work on average 37,5 hrs a week, working every 4th weekend.
