Job title: Assistant Aviculturist

Location: Wales

The workplace: One of the world’s largest facilities producing high quality hunting falcons.

The salary: To be negotiated based on experience

The person: Needs to have a positive interest in the breeding of falcons. Practical skills would be useful. To be reliable and conscientious is essential. We are based on a farm so driving licence also a must.

The job: Our years work is very seasonal. Throughout the year there is food preparation, feeding and monitoring of falcons. The winter months comprise general cleaning and maintenance of aviaries, minor building work and painting. From March onwards Staff are responsible for allocated breeding sections with pairs of falcons. This involves feeding, checking for eggs, monitoring behaviour, checking the well-being of chicks, through to the movement of young falcons to hack pens awaiting shipping to various countries. The breeding season is very busy and requires some part day working at weekends, on a rota basis.

There is some training of falcons to hunt, and assisting with the preparation of falcons being taken to the Festival of Falconry.
