Section Head – New World Primates - Twycross Zoo

Section Head – New World Primates

Twycross Zoo, based in Leicestershire, is a registered charity and is home to over 1000 animals from more than 200 different species. We are proud of the work we do in conservation and education and take part in many captive breeding programmes for endangered animals. About three quarters of the animals housed at Twycross are classed as endangered species.

The New World Primates Section includes the following species: marmosets, tamarins, titi monkeys, saki monkeys, spider monkeys, woolly monkeys, howlers, langurs, colobus and guenons.

Section Heads are ‘hands on’ keepers as well as supervising other keepers on the section. The animal side of the role includes ensuring that all the Section’s animals are kept to the Zoo’s required standards and protocols, making informed decisions about animal management and encouraging enrichment and operant training. The people side of the role includes organising rotas, holiday requests, performance management and carrying out appraisals.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate a substantial working knowledge of the natural history and management of at least one species on the Section and show the ability to run a section using appropriate management skills.

The salary for this position is £20,193 and we offer 31 days holiday, uniform, 5% pension contribution and the possibility of on-site accommodation.
