Chester Zoo Aquarist (Temporary)

Chester Zoo is one of the leading zoological collections in Europe with an international reputation for achieving its mission in conservation, research and education.

We currently have a vacancy for an Aquarist to join a busy Aquarium section on a temporary 6 month contract. The successful candidate will undertake daily animal care duties, focussing on welfare, hygiene and life-support and make detailed observations and records of all aspects of their behaviour and husbandry. They will also ensure that exhibits are of an excellent standard for visitors and provide outstanding customer care.

The successful candidate will have a degree in biological sciences or equivalent. They will have good practical experience of marine and freshwater fish and aquatic invertebrate husbandry and will be committed to ensuring the highest possible standards of animal welfare and husbandry. They will have outstanding observation skills, show attention to detail and have a proven track record of delivering high standards of aquarium presentation. They will have the ability to prioritise a diverse workload and will have experience of working as a member of a team.

The successful candidate will have an understanding of the role of zoo’s in research and conservation. They will ideally have demonstrable interest and knowledge of fish and aquatic vertebrate conservation. They should be computer literate and conversant in the use of standard software packages.

Salary is £14,171 (subject to Job Evaluation).
