Senior Animal Keeper – Carnivores

Join our vibrant organisation!

As an action oriented conservation charity, Marwell Wildlife’s desire is to connect people with nature. Through enthusing people about the wonders of the natural world we’re certain they’ll share our passion to conserve it. Our success relies on two key things. The impression we create through our 140 acre zoological park, Marwell Zoo, with its wide array of exotic and endangered species and the family of talented people we employ who share our passion and bring our vision to life.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Senior Animal Keeper.

For the right candidate, this post offers a fantastic opportunity to work with a wide range of carnivore species from mongoose to Amur tigers and contribute to captive breeding programmes with species such as Amur leopards, Northern cheetah, red pandas and fossa.

This role is responsible for supporting both the team and the Team Leader and ensuring high standards of animal husbandry and welfare at all times whilst ensuring that all exhibits and facilities are maintained to the highest possible standards. In order to achieve this, the successful candidate must possess current knowledge of issues affecting zoological collections and their contributions to conservation, science, sustainability & education.

As a key contributor to the organisation and its goals, you will be expected to set the example, demonstrate positive behavior and conduct yourself in line with our Values at all times as you will be in daily contact with your colleagues throughout the wider organisation and our guests.

The successful candidate will have specialist taxonomic knowledge and experience in Carnivores with a minimum Level 3 (ANC / DMZAA) or equivalent qualification in animal management or biological sciences. Experience of working within strict safe working practices is vital for this role.

A full driving licence valid for the UK must be held to allow the driving of park vehicles.

Applicants will be able to demonstrate the importance of team work and the benefits of self-motivation. You must possess strong communication skills to be able to fulfill your role as ambassador with our guests and key contributor within your team.

Your development is of key importance to us and we acknowledge that our future plans will be delivered through our people. We commit to providing you with opportunity to develop your professional skills and abilities, to be heard and contribute to future plans.

Accommodation may be available on a short term basis to the successful candidate. Please note this would incur a rental cost.
