Our Animal Adventure team are looking for a Browse Management Assistant to support good quality and sustainable browse for our animal sections.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role will be responsible for the tree management and sustainable harvesting of a variety of browse species used by animal operations departments. Duties will include tree planting, coppicing, pollarding and cultivating and preparing browse and other plant materials.
You will be leading in all aspects of developing modern browse harvesting techniques and feeding techniques as a representative of the team at regional and international zoo horticultural events.

ABOUT YOU

The ideal candidate will have experience within forestry or horticultural industries relating to the cultivation, harvesting and management of eucalyptus, oak, bramble, privet, willow and other sustainable browse species. An interest in animal-plant relationships and plant monoculture would be preferable alongside relevant skills and harvesting techniques.
An advanced qualification in animal management or forestry as well as a minimum of 2 years’ horticultural experience as well as a full driving licence are essential to this role. 


HOURS OF WORK

This is a fixed term position until 8th January 2017, working 40 hours a week hours over 5 days as required by the business to include weekends, evenings and bank holidays. Hours will vary from 8.30am until close (times vary throughout the season).
