Carnivore / Big Cat Keeper

Carnivore / Big Cat Keeper

A position has become available for an experienced Carnivore and Big Cat Keeper.  The position is for a 45 hour week, includes weekend work, and flexibility in working hours is essential to this role.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and highly motivated individual to join our small, friendly team.   This position provides a unique opportunity for the right individual, as Hamerton Zoo Park has a well-respected and highly successful independent breeding programme for Cheetah, with a number of individuals housed in eleven purpose built enclosures, on and off-exhibit.  The role includes responsibility for our Malayan Tigers, Maned Wolves and 'White' Tigers, plus other spp.

This position involves all tasks surrounding the maintenance of these animals, including food preparation, provision and supply; exhibit and enclosure design and upkeep; record keeping, health & safety and liaison with other colleagues and collections in the UK and abroad; working closely with our other staff, Veterinarians, zoo management and colleagues in other collections; and production and delivery of keeper-talks and education sessions, alongside our education department.

The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring the highest standard of care for our animals, and be committed to running and developing our conservation, breeding programme for the Tigers and Cheetahs – and must be capable of working well within a team, as well as alone and unsupervised. You must be educated to at least GCSE level in English and maths and sciences, and an animal based qualification is desirable.
Experience in this area is critical, and full references must be provided.
Due to the physical nature of the job, applicants will need to be physically fit and healthy, and be fully prepared to work outside in all weathers.

Requirements
•        A good knowledge of carnivores and global animal conservation issues.
•        An ability to communicate this knowledge to the general public.
•        A full driving license is essential due to our rural location.
•        Your own transport is required - accommodation could be available.

Please send an up to date CV and covering letter by email to Andrew Swales. office@hamertonzoopark.com

CLOSING DATE: 31st January 2018

We have re-opened the vacancy and those that have previously applied need not as we have your CV’s on file.
Please note that we reserve the right to close this vacancy early if necessary, and will only contact those who we wish to interview.

Thank you.
