EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES KEEPER 

SHALDON WILDLIFE TRUST, DEVON

Shaldon Wildlife Trust is a small zoo on the Devon coast, set in an acre of woodland.  We are the smallest member of BIAZA and EAZA. Despite this, we are active members of the zoo community and support conservation projects all over the world. Over the years we have gained a great deal of expertise in the breeding of many species, particularly small primates, and are regarded highly in this field.

We are going through an exciting period of change as the zoo develops and so are looking for a dynamic, knowledgeable individual to become a key member of our team. This role will provide the right candidate with the opportunity to develop and grow in a small team.

We currently have a vacancy for an education and experiences keeper. This role will entail delivering Shaldon Wildlife Trust’s animal high quality experiences, keeper talks, school visits and outreach. You will also support the rest of the animal care team in their animal husbandry duties such as feeding, cleaning and record keeping. We are seeking an enthusiastic, high performing individual with an interest in education, conservation and zoo animal management. You must be a good team worker with a positive outlook and have excellent communication & customer service skills.

The successful candidate will be a lively and confident speaker with a friendly and approachable manner. They will be driven to help the Trust achieve its mission of educating and promoting the benefits of preserving and conserving of rare and endangered species. Experience in public speaking is desirable; experience delivering talks in an educational setting advantageous. A minimum of 2 years zoo keeping experience, and an animal-related qualification, such as DZMAA or biology based degree would also be advantageous.

 - The role is part time, 3 days a week. Salary is paid monthly.  We provide uniform and 28 days holiday per annum pro rata.

- Salary £16,286.40 per annum pro rata
