Supervisor Animal Trainer

Al Ain Zoo is seeking an experienced, motivated, hardworking Supervisor Animal Trainer to be part of a dedicated Animals Care team and staff within the Animals Care Section of Al Ain Zoo.

 

 

This position offers an excellent opportunity to work with over 4000 specimens of animals including carnivores, primates, ungulates, birds, and reptiles that are maintained in extensive habitat displays in the largest Zoo in the Middle East. Al Ain Zoo is a 1000 hectare wildlife experience with a focus on arid land wildlife conservation, education, animal management, veterinary care and visitor experience.

 

 

The Role:

This position is required for managing the day to day aspects of the animal training, organizing public shows, educational demonstrations, and staff management. Also supervises, performs a wide variety of functions in the training, handling and care of animals used for public appearances and contact, such as educational programs, animal shows and performs related work as required. This Position is also required to establish animal training programs for husbandry and veterinary care purposes where possible. Duties will include but not limited to:

 

 

·  Supervises assigned staff as per organizational structure and polices

·  Develop and mentor progress of UAE National staff.

·  Assures animal feeding schedules and dietary requirements are met

·  Arrange / perform animal training and care programs

·  Supervise and manage all animal show and related activities

·  Participates in establishing and updating Standard Operating procedures

·  Oversees pest control operations in relevant areas

·  Provides support and guidance to Senior Keepers, Keepers

·  Work closely with animal care supervisors to establish and maintain animal training programs

·  Generates work requests and coordinates completion

·  Ensures accurate and complete records of animal activities are maintained


·  Participates in planning the developing and modifying of animal facilities

·  Sets up props, stages, or other performance areas

·  Trains animals for public appearance and health maintenance

·  Controls animals to ensure public safety

·  Makes informational presentations to the public

·  Adheres to the organization’s policies and practices

·  Exemplifies the highest standard of work ethics.

·  Conducts special tours as required

·  Any other relevant duties assigned by the line manager and or AC manager.

·  Follow all ZAPIA EHS policies and procedures.

 

The position is full time, working 5 days per week and will include weekends and public holidays. Applicants should be physically fit and able to work outdoors in challenging conditions and be culturally sensitive.

Qualifications and experience required:

A Bachelor of Science in biology or other scientifically related field, knowledge of behavioral enrichment, as well as a broad base knowledge of animal husbandry.

Education and training experience, which would clearly demonstrate the knowledge and skills outlined. At least two or more-year experience as an animal trainer at a comparable organization plus a minimum of 3 years of wild animal training experience is required.
