Beale Wildlife Park is home to over 160 species, set in a 350 acre estate in an AONB on the banks of the river Thames. We're in an exciting time of development and progression and are growing our animal collection and expanding our offering of visitor engagement and education.

An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Living Collection Manager to join our team and become an integral part of the animal department leadership team, taking an active role in the planning and development of our expanding animal collection. Working directly under the Living Collections Manager you will cover a wide range of duties in addition to animal keeping, such as:

  • Creating systems and procedures for improvement of the smooth running of the animal department
  • Line managing animal team staff
  • Assisting with new and existing enclosure design
  • Contributing ideas for continuous development of the department and the collection
  • Delivering Keeper Talks and Animal Experiences. 

You will help lead the team to evolve the animal department into a high performing, motivated and skilled team working to the highest standards of animal husbandry.

You will oversee the day to day running of the team, ensuring they adhere to all protocols, signing off work, mentoring and ensuring a safe environment for our animals, staff and visitors. 

You will be passionate about animals and looking to put your stamp and creativity on a newly created role. You'll bring your knowledge, experience and can do attitude to improve and develop the animal collection in a park with huge potential. 

We're looking for someone with a minimum of 6 years Zoo Keeper experience who holds the Diploma in the Management of Zoo Animals and Aquaria or an equivalent qualification. You will be competent and confident in managing staff, delegating, supervising, motivating and managing performance as well as setting high standards and creating protocols and best practice for animal husbandry.

This is a full time, permanent position with accommodation available if needed. Salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience.
