About us:

The Ventura Wildlife Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to worldwide wildlife conservation and education. We are involved in the conservation of rare and endangered species through breeding, habitat protection, community engagement and reintroduction programmes.

Our 15-acre private conservation centre and headquarters is situated in Watford, Hertfordshire and is home to a variety of lakes and forest areas. The centre is visited by a wide variety of native wildlife and within our facility we care for many different exotic species including zebra, ostrich, kangaroo, dingo, binturong, porcupine, tamarin, marmoset, lemur, mongoose, fossa, pelican, flamingo, macaw, Galapagos tortoise and dwarf crocodile.

 

The Role:

We are seeking a responsible, enthusiastic and dedicated animal keeper to join our team. The successful individual will be required to complete daily animal husbandry tasks including food preparation and the cleaning of animal habitats. The role will include various other aspects such as site care & maintenance, stock taking, enrichment, maintaining accurate records as well as instructing volunteers and interns.

 

The successful applicant will be expected to be able to carry out educational talks, tours and private animal encounters/experiences for a variety of age groups, both on and off site.

 

The Applicant:

We are looking for a professional individual who has at least 1 years’ experience working within a zoo, conservation centre, farm park or similar organisation. The individual must be confident and willing to work with a variety of different animal species, both individually and as part of a small team. Applicants need to have meticulous attention to detail and a strong level of responsibility and initiative. The applicant must have a genuine passion for wildlife, education and conservation.

 

The applicant must be prepared to work outdoors all year round and have a good level of physical fitness. An ability to work safely and responsibly is essential.

 

A UK manual driving licence, ability to use Microsoft Office and a basic understanding of ZIMS are advantageous to this role.

 

The Particulars:

Working 35-40 hours per week, based on a five-day week including weekends and bank holidays. A flexible approach to working hours is essential to help meet the needs of the Foundation.

All applicants must be permitted to work within the UK and have necessary documentation.

The Foundation will provide on-going training and development opportunities.
