Zoological Manager
Permanent position
Full time: 45 hours per week
Salary: £24,000-£28,250 negotiable depending on experience
Post commences: Spring 2011

The Isle of Wight Zoo is the Island’s original and leading zoo specializing in big cats and lemurs. It is located on the popular east coast of the Isle of Wight overlooking a spectacular sandy beach just half an hour’s drive away from the capital town. The zoo is privately operated by a proactive and dedicated team.
A valuable and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Zoological Manager to join our organization to manage the zoological activities and assist with future development.
Additional information:
The successful candidate will have a strong motivation towards team work and leadership and be dedicated to achieving the highest standards for the organization. A desire to make a personal contribution to an up-and-coming zoo is a key aspect of this post. Relevant management and animal care experience is essential.

Required:
- Proven track record in leadership and management of staff
- Competent with the management and exhibition of large felids, primates and small mammals
- Must have experience working with large felids
- Technically competent with animal records keeping systems eg ARKS
- Excellent interpersonal and organization skills
- Ability to make a positive impact on the visitor experience and deal with daily issues
- Public presentation experience
- Must be prepared to work some weekends and flexible attitude towards working hours
- Full driving license
- Good health and physical fitness
Advantageous:
- Duty Manager experience within a zoo or associated organization
- Experience of business management within a zoo or associated organization
- Health and Safety qualifications or formal training
- ANC or equivalent Animal Management qualification
- Firearms license and experience
