Wetlands are
essential for life. The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) creates and
protects wetland habitats to provide water, food and shelter for people and
wildlife. We save species around the world from extinction; our nine UK Wetland Centers inspire thousands of visitors to enjoy being close to nature.
WWT is seeking to
appoint a skilled and experienced animal management professional with a proven
track record to coordinate our national captive animal collection.
The main function of
this role is to ensure the highest standards of captive animal welfare and
animal collection design and maintenance across our seven UK Wetland Centers licensed as zoos.
You will be
responsible for managing WWT’s animal health team with whom you will conduct
regular site inspections. You will also be responsible for providing advice,
guidance, support and training to animal management staff based at our Wetland Centers.
We are looking for
someone with a combination of hands-on animal and bird keeping experience and
considerable curatorial or collection management experience gained ideally in a
zoo or visitor attraction setting.
You will have a
creative eye for exhibit design, a thorough knowledge of all aspects of animal
collection management and a reputation for maintaining high standards.
You will also be an
experienced people manager with demonstrable training, development and
influencing skills.
Experience in a role
providing specialist advice to remote sites would be a distinct advantage as
would specialist avicultural knowledge.
This role will
ideally be based at our Slimbridge headquarters and will require regular travel
across the UK and to Northern Ireland.
