Paignton Zoo, one of the largest in the UK and a registered scientific and education charity, has an exciting opportunity for an experienced keeper to join our Mammal team. You will be responsible for the hands-on day-to-day husbandry of a large and diverse collection of mammals, with a focus on large mammals and carnivores, previous experience with these taxa is desirable.
You will have at least 4 years’ experience working with mammals and 2 years’ with large mammals and/or carnivores as well as having completed the DMZAA course or equivalent qualification.
Previous supervisory experience would be beneficial. You will be a self-motivated team player with experience of training new keepers. Strong communication with an understanding of its importance within the role, department and organization as a whole and ICT skills, including a sound working knowledge of ZIMS would be an advantage.
You will have a broad knowledge of husbandry practices and experience in successful husbandry with a particular emphasis placed on large mammals and/or carnivores. You will have a full understanding and awareness of health and safety issues within a zoological setting and have experience in assessing risks and creating a safe workplace and an understanding of Zoo license regulations.
Firearms team experience would be an advantage
but is not essential.
A full driving license is essential.
