The Bristol Aquarium seeks an Assistant Curator About the Role As Bristol Aquarium’s Assistant Curator, in conjunction with the Group Curator and General Manager, you will take responsibility for ensuring the continual development and innovation within the displays areas, leading the delivery of consistently high standards of animal husbandry and displays through the management, organisation and continued development of the team. 

The role will combine hands-on work within the Aquarium’s exhibits with zoological team management duties. 

You will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following: 
Maintaining all exhibits within the aquarium setting as well as our Botanical House Gardens 
Create displays and exhibits that are aesthetically pleasing as well as ensure high levels of welfare for the livestock. 
Ensure tanks are suitable for the species held, and that life support and mechanical systems are functioning properly 
Monitor and maintain aquarium water quality 
Understand and comply with Zoo Licence regulations and other statutory regulations 
Liaise with veterinary consultants to develop fish health protocols and develop procedures for maintaining health records 
As a key part of our aquarium team you will be required to carry out some duty management. 

This post is full time, working 5 days over 7 including regular weekend shifts and bank holidays. You will also be required to be on the On Call rota for any LSS emergencies. 

About You 
Already an experienced Displays Supervisor/Assistant Curator with knowledge of both marine and freshwater systems, you will have infectious enthusiasm for creating stunning and innovative displays and keen to share knowledge with your team and visitors
You will be a self motivated individual; a strong communicator who will be able to lead, develop and support the displays team. You will have a robust knowledge of aquatic animal husbandry, life support systems operation and maintenance, with the practical ability to create spectacular displays that deliver a highly immersive experience to all our guests.
