COLCHESTER ZOO HAS A VACANCY FOR AN EXPIERENCED ANIMAL KEEPER.

 

 Colchester Zoo is seeking a highly motivated and knowledgeable individual to join one of its mammal sections.

 

This section is reasonable for the care and welfare of a range of species, including sun bears, Amur leopards, painted dogs, red panda, gibbons, giant anteaters, and binturong, as examples.

 

This is a fulltime position working 40 hours per week 5 days out of 7 on a rotational basis.

 

The ideal candidate will have worked for a minimum of 3 years in a recognised zoological institution and preferably have notable experience of working with large carnivores.

 

It is expected that you will have been awarded a HND in animal science or above and in a related field. You should have a clean full UK drivers’ licence.

 

Good communication and reporting skills, both written and oral are necessary for this role and you will be expected to engage with visitor experiences including the delivery of keeper talks.

 

The successful applicant will be responsible for but not limited to; presentation of enclosures, feeding and general care and of the animals, designing and implementing enrichment and understand the principles of animal husbandry training and associated tasks, to achieve the highest standards of care and welfare possible. You will work as part of a team of experienced keepers but also work singularly as required whilst reporting to and taking instructions from the Team leader.
