Veterinary Nurse (Animal Health Coordinator) 

Permanent – Full Time – 40 hours per week (annualised)

Blackpool Zoo is one of the UKs most established medium sized zoos, and in a normal year attracts over 500,000 visitors annually, we pride ourselves on our diverse collection of animals, award-winning visitor experience and friendly atmosphere for visitors and staff alike.

We are continually looking to improve our animal’s management, health and wellbeing and in recent years we have seen significant investment in new animal facilities and exhibits.

A unique opportunity has arisen for an ‘Animal Health Coordinator’ to join our team. We are looking to employ an enthusiastic and motivated Registered Veterinary Nurse to manage and maintain our onsite veterinary facilities, central animal food preparation area and to assist with the smooth operation of the animal stores provision and the associated equipment and facilities.

As well as managing a small team your responsibilities will include, providing all aspects of veterinary nursing care to the animal collection, ordering and storage of medication, record keeping (including Zims medical) and to act as the direct liaison between the appointed veterinarian and animal keeping staff. You will take an active role in formulating the diets of the zoos animal collection as well as overseeing the newly built central animal food preparation area.

You will be required to keep abreast of all relevant legislative standards and ensure appropriate Health and Safety measures are actioned throughout your area of responsibility.

As part of the senior Animal team on site you will be expected to provide assistance to the Animal Manager in the development of the Animal health section within the Animal departments future aims and objectives.

Applicants must be a Registered Veterinary Nurse, hold a minimum of two years varied veterinary nursing experience and a full driving licence valid for the UK. Experience of some form of Veterinary practice management and a knowledge of zoological or exotic wildlife veterinary nursing, would be an advantage.

The successful candidate must be competent in the use of computers and basic software packages such as Windows and Microsoft Office.

CPD support and the RCVS annual fee funded, with special nursing interests also encouraged.
