Parks are part of The Aspinall Foundation, a charity committed to protecting rare
and endangered animals from extinction through captive breeding and reintroduction
programmes.
Currently we are seeking a
self-motivated, enthusiastic and confident person to help undertake our
expanding education commitments. Duties of the role include presenting
scheduled education talks to our visitors; presenting talks to schools and
bespoke groups; to man the education centres; to provide guided walks with
small groups; to deliver our experience days; and to engage in our outreach
programme which provides educational talks at various external venues.
This role also requires the applicant
to support the Supervisor in the management and coordination of a team of 6 education
officers. This team covers both Howletts
& Port Lympne Parks to ensure the highest levels of conservation education.
We are therefore looking for a proactive individual with proven people skills,
who can demonstrate supervisory skills gained from previous management
experience. An ability to be reactionary to last minute changes is essential,
in order to deal with the day-to-day demands of the department. The candidate
will need to be highly computer literate (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and
preferably Access) to assist in managing the department’s rota and budgetary
requirements and will be required to represent the department at internal and
external meetings in the absence of the Supervisor.
The candidate will be educated to
degree level in a relevant subject. They
will also have previous experience working in an educational role gained in an
established learning/educational faculty.
Extensive experience in
presenting talks to the public is essential. Also required is an extensive knowledge
of exotic wildlife and global conservation issues.
The role is split between the
parks so the successful candidate will be required to work at both. Candidates must therefore have a full valid
driving license and their own transport.
Working 40 hours per week on a
five day rota basis, candidates must be prepared to work weekends and public
