Deputy
Head of Section – Animal Encounters at Woburn Safari Park.
Experienced
candidates are invited to apply for the post of; Deputy Head of
Section.
This is a senior
post supporting the Head of Section in managing the animal section within the
walk-through area of Woburn Safari Park. The area includes four walkthrough
enclosures (including an award winning lemur walkthrough) and numerous
educational demonstration areas including birds of prey, parrots and sea lions.
The post holder will be expected to effectively support the Head of Section in
line managing 10 full time staff and up to 9 seasonal staff. This area of the
park accounts for the majority of the visitor’s dwell-time and as a result, the
successful candidate must be a balanced animal/people person.
The ideal
candidate must have a proven track record of managing people, at least 5 years
animal experience preferably within a Zoo/Safari Park environment, and should
ideally hold a relevant animal qualification, such as a degree or the animal
management diploma.
The “foot
safari” of the park will be undergoing a major development in the next few years
starting this year with the addition of the Meerkat, Mongoose and Porcupine
exhibit in “Desert Springs” situated in the central hub of the visitor area,
therefore the ideal candidate must be comfortable with a challenging and
changing environment and will ideally have previous experience of planning and
designing animal enclosures, as they will support the Head of Section and the
team in developing this area.
This role will be
an exciting one with plenty of challenges, and the successful applicant will be
working within an area where there is plenty of room for development
opportunities and career progression within the section and across the
park.
Woburn Safari
Park's animal department is committed to both conservation and welfare, and is
fortunate to have the space in which these goals can be best met. Potential
staff must share this commitment. Woburn offers a competitive pay structure for
the best candidates.
