Scotland’s National Aquarium is looking to recruit two
experienced Aquarist/Divers
Deep Sea World is a
market leader visitor attraction and Scotland’s gem based in North
Queensferry. Our Aquarium hosts the
largest temperate marine display in the UK through its underwater walkthrough
tunnel. Other displays include tropical
marine, freshwater, reptiles, amphibians and marine mammals.
The responsibility of the
Aquarist/Diver will be varied,
challenging, but extremely rewarding. A
hands on approach is required to ensure you achieve the highest standard of
animal care and husbandry.
For
this vacancy a proven track record in animal husbandry is essential, and
experience of developing and maintaining display tank systems is desirable.
A proven ability to design, construct and maintain systems is a must and
familiarity with PVC pipework, basic joinery and maintenance of life support
equipment including pumps is a crucial part of these hands-on posts.
Other responsibilities will include providing veterinary care, involvement in
display development and breeding programmes as directed.
It’s
important that all visitors to Deep Sea World have an enjoyable day out and
this is where you will play a part. You will be responsible for promoting and
participating in public presentations and education sessions, as well as conversing with
visitors whilst carrying out your daily duties around the aquarium. It’s
essential therefore that you enjoy and are just as confident working behind the
scenes as well as Front of House.
The role requires you to
take members of the public into our main tank (as part of our dive experience
package), and to carry out shows and maintenance dives. It is desirable, but
not essential, that you are qualified to PADI Divemaster or equivalent and hold
a valid HSE dive medical. Dive specific
training can be undertaken if not already at this level.
This post is full time, involving a rota pattern which
includes working regular weekends and Bank Holidays, as well as being on-call
for out of hour’s emergencies.
