Colchester Zoo is seeking a highly motivated and knowledgeable individual to join its team of experienced elephant keepers working with 1.3 African elephants.

This is a full time position working 40 hours per week 5 days out of 7 on a rotational basis.

The ideal candidate will have worked for a minimum of two years in a recognised zoological institution and have notable experience of working with elephants in either a free contact or protected contact environment.

 It is expected that you will have been awarded a HND in animal science or a related field. However, due consideration will be given to the candidates own level of zoological experience throughout the application process. You should have a clean full UK drivers licence.

 Good communication skills, both written and oral are necessary for this role and you will be expected to engage with visitor experiences including the delivery of keeper talks.

The successful applicant will be responsible for but not limited to; cleaning and presentation of exhibits, feeding and general care of the elephants and all associated tasks in order to achieve the highest standards of animal care and welfare. You will work as part of a team of experienced elephant keepers but also work singularly as required whilst reporting to and taking instructions from the Head of Section.
