Job Description : Chester Zoo is one of the leading zoological collections in Europe with an international reputation for achieving its mission in conservation, research and education. With the new ‘Islands’ site under construction, due to open in July, 2015 is set to be an exciting year!
We are seeking to recruit a Community Conservation Manager on a permanent basis within our award winning Discovery & Learning Division. The role will manage a programme of projects and activities to engage communities in the UK and around the world, raising awareness of conservation issues, supporting environmental action and leading behaviour change initiatives. This role will be involved with the development of volunteering programmes and opportunities for communities to become directly involved in our work. Applicants should have experience of working with volunteers and supervising others.
The post-holder will require substantial experience developing and managing community based learning programmes and projects, preferably within a zoo, aquarium or other environmental education or conservation focused organisation. A working knowledge of conservation and the key issues threatening the natural world today is highly desirable. Experience of working internationally would be advantageous.
This role requires the post holder to work extensively across different departments and with external colleagues. Experience engaging a variety of stakeholders and a positive attitude with the ability to enthuse and engage others is essential.
Work is a five day week, Monday to Friday with occasional need for evening and weekend working. Salary is £30,227.53 per annum for a 40 hour working week.
