Lead Horticulturist








Chester Zoo is one of the leading zoological collections in Europe with an international reputation for achieving its mission in conservation, research and education. With the new ‘Islands’ site under construction, due to open in the summer, 2015 is set to be an exciting year! This unique and innovative project will provide an immersive experience; showcasing the animals and plants of South-east Asia and working towards a better understanding of the vital conservation work being undertaken in this region.

An opportunity has arisen within the horticultural team, to assist in all aspects of the department’s work. Responsibilities include the landscaping and planting of new developments and the care of our extensive collection of mature trees.  Candidates will have proven professional experience in horticulture and landscaping and have good plant knowledge. You will be qualified to NVQ Level II/HNC level (or equivalent) in Horticulture and hold a full driving license and PA 1 & PA 6.  Supervisory experience would be beneficial.

Experience of using horticultural equipment and machinery is essential and it would be desirable for you to have basic climbing, aerial rescue and chainsaw rope and harness qualifications.

This will be a permanent, full time position working on a roster of 5 days in 7 including 1:4 weekends.

Salary is £21,866 per annum for a 40 hour week.
