Salary: £15,300 - £18,253 per annum depending on qualifications and experience

About Us
The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) owns and manages Edinburgh Zoo and the Highland Wildlife Park. Both parks are premier visitor attractions, offering visitors a fantastic day out.
Of equal importance is our excellent international reputation for our conservation and education programmes and we are looking to the future with confidence. We’ve been a charity since our founding in 1909 and maintain a keen commercial edge to ensure we can sustain our excellent reputation.

Our mission is to connect people with nature and safeguard species from extinction. It’s an exciting time at RZSS having recently celebrated our centenary year.

Animal Keeper/Trainee Keeper
A vacancy has arisen for an Animal Keeper to work within the Living Collections Department at the Highland Wildlife Park, specifically on the animal section responsible for the care of the carnivores, birds, a primate and a rodent species.

It would be preferable if the successful candidate has relevant carnivore experience and ideally a fairly broad exposure to other taxa.

Ideally the successful candidate has passed the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals or an equivalent zoo animal management qualification, but they must hold a valid UK driving license; both qualifications should be confirmed within your application material.

The successful candidate will be expected to care for all the species on the section and assist with our resident keeper volunteer programme, under the supervision of the section’s Senior Animal Keeper and Animal Team Leader.

About You
To operate effectively in this role, practical experience in a zoo environment is desirable along with a good understanding of the role of zoos in the 21st century, but it is crucial that you have a keen interest in wild animal management, are physically fit and happy to work in all weather conditions.

This is a 12 month fixed term position and the working hours are 37.5 hours per week (annualised figure) and the post involves weekend and occasional evening work.

Closing Date: Sunday 11 October 2015.
