The International
Centre for Birds of Prey (ICBP), Newent, Gloucestershire have a rare vacancy
for an individual to join the Bird Staff team under the charge of Jemima
Parry-Jones MBE.
We are looking for a
motivated and enthusiastic individual who has a good sense of humour coupled
with excellent communication skills. A willingness to work hard and be a team
player is very important to us. As a member of Bird Staff you must be prepared
to liaise and work closely with all centre staff and volunteers.
The position is
physically demanding and would best suit someone with a good level of fitness
and strength. The majority of work will include cleaning of aviaries,
maintenance of all centre infrastructure, painting, gardening and general
landscaping duties. This is in addition to the numerous bird of prey management
and handling responsibilities, working with the general public and on occasion
washing up in the café!
Public speaking
skills and the ability to convey a conservation message are important.
Experience in handling or training birds of prey is NOT essential as the
successful applicant will receive full and progressive training from senior
staff. You must show a desire to learn, study and improve your own knowledge
and skills often in your own time.
Having good DIY
skills and an ability to use basic construction tools is a definite advantage.
There is NO
accommodation available at this time and pets including raptors are not allowed
on site.
A Full clean driving
licence is crucial.
The successful
applicant will be required to work through a probationary period of six months
with a further six month review.
Salary starts at
£15k per year. The position is a five day 40 hour week but hours are subject to
change and applicants need to be very flexible in their approach. This includes
working weekends and Bank Holidays. Overtime opportunities are sometimes available.

would like to get the new member of staff well integrated before reopening to
the public on February 1st 2016
