Animal Keeper Position at Wild Ireland

Wild Ireland is a new wildlife park located in the Northwest of Ireland. The park is in its infancy but already hosts a wide collection of animals. Wild Ireland is home to European brown bears, European lynx, Grey wolves, Barbary macaques, and a variety of birds, small mammals, and domestic animals. The collection focuses on Ireland’s lost wildlife with a few exceptions.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join the new collection and assist with guiding the park as it rapidly develops over the coming years.
Responsibilities will include general husbandry of all animals on site including carnivores and primates.

Hours per week: 40 – 45 including at least two weekends per month.
Salary:  on application
Location: Wild Ireland, Dundrain, Burnfoot, Co. Donegal, Ireland.
Start date: Immediate start date

Successful candidates will have a wide range of experience with animals with at least five years paid work experience with bears and primates (or other category one animals). Any applications with less experience will not be shortlisted.
Successful candidates will have good people skills and will be expected to engage with the public during keeper talks and educational tours/ school visits etc.
Wild Ireland has a strong focus on environmental enrichment and training. A successful candidate should have proven success or knowledge of operant conditioning.

A successful candidate should be enthusiastic, motivated, able to work as part of a team with a positive outlook and excellent communication skills at all levels.
Successful candidates will be expected to ensure a high level of animal care including dietary and husbandry knowledge.

Desirable attributes of a successful candidate:
  • Strong observation skills
  • Experience of public speaking
  • Proven success or knowledge of operant conditioning.
  • Full clean driving licence (essential due to location)
  • A relevant animal-related qualification

Conditions of appointment:
Immediate start date
This position will be subject to a six-month probationary period
The role is full time and includes weekend duties as part of the current rolling roster system.
Salary is paid weekly.
20 days holiday per annum
