The Breeding Centre for Endangered Arabian Wildlife (BCEAW) is part of Sharjah Desert Park, a conservation and education facility managed by the Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) of Sharjah Government in the United Arab Emirates. The Centre focuses on captive breeding and research of the endemic fauna of the Arabian Peninsula.

We are currently recruiting for a suitably experienced and qualified Head of Department, in the Freshwater Fish, Amphibian and Reptile Department to join our Team. The Department’s animals include freshwater fish, amphibians and reptiles from the Arabian Peninsula.

This position will report to the Operations Manager and will be responsible for the overall organisation and management of our freshwater fish, amphibian, and reptile collections, including supervision of two fulltime keepers.

The role will involve the implementation and progression of the animal collection plan; exhibit design and development; the efficient management of resources; staff leadership and development and assisting in the expansion of the Centre’s conservation and research activities in the United Arab Emirates and abroad with an emphasis on teamwork and a ‘hands-on’ operational approach.

The successful candidate should be qualified in an appropriate animal/conservation discipline, have a proven track record in reptile husbandry and breeding (including highly venomous species), and have a minimum of five years experience. Experience with freshwater fish and amphibian husbandry and breeding will be an advantage.
