Oceanarium
The Oceanarium is
seeking an enthusiastic and pro-active penguin keeper to join the team and be
at the forefront of the penguin beach encounter experience.
Firmly established
as one of the area’s most popular visitor attractions, the Oceanarium is home
to a diverse range of creatures - from sharks and otters, to turtles and
crocodiles!
The penguin keeper
will provide the highest standards of care for the Oceanarium Humboldt penguin
colony, in addition to the Inca terns that share the exhibit.
A key role in an
exciting facility, the keeper will be responsible for the maintenance,
cleanliness and operation of the entire penguin beach area, offering regular
talks, feeds and interactive opportunities to provide a captivating and
immersive experience for visitors throughout the day.
The highest
standards of animal welfare and husbandry must be followed at all times,
ensuring all zoo licence regulations and BIAZA guidelines are adhered to and
that related administration duties are fulfilled.
The role includes
the maintenance of the penguin quarantine area, maintaining the plantroom and
LSS for the penguin facility as well as some responsibility for other aquatic
exhibits in the aquarium.
An annual salary of
up to £18,500 is offered (dependant on experience) along with a performance related bonus,
company pension scheme and life assurance.
The position
includes on-call responsibilities on a rota basis as well as weekend and bank
holiday working.
